How to Avoid Getting Divorced

By Mike L Jones

Let’s look back about 150 years, life was simple. The wife got up and made the meals, took care of the children and pretty much had no life other than a few people, mostly other spouses, that lived in the area. The husband went to work, which was a lot different back then. Maybe, the family just lived on a farm. Divorce was a very rare thing.

Well, you can’t travel back in time at least not yet anyway. So, you have to focus on what you have on your plate today. First you got to take a look at yourself:

Do I provide for my family?

This is not a one sided issue. There are many things you need to do to provide for your family. Do you help around the house? Do you spend time with the kids? Do you put food on the table, not just pay for it?

Do you have dinner together?

This is a proven way to work on the communication that has been lacking in almost all of the relationships in America today. Dinner is not meant to sit in front of the television. It is meant to discuss issues. A little “How did your day go?” conversation will open up many eyes to what is actually going on in and around the home.

Are you quick to anger?

If your spouse didn’t do it, do not get mad at them for it. There is no need to be confrontational this will only lead to future problems. Instead, the best action sometimes is no action at all. A marriage that will last is one that you communicate not fight. Do you hate it when someone keeps telling you what to do? Of course you do. It is a lot easier to just do it yourself and you will be amazed at the response from your partner. Be the leader of your house, it’s your home.

Bottom line is today is not a few hundred years ago. Life has given us many temptations and distractions that sometimes make it seem harder to decide what is best in our lives. Do not let these distractions lead you down a long lonely path.
